This November we have had another session of our feminist reading club, with the work “Nuevos hombres buenos. Masculinity in the era of feminism“. In addition, we have had the pleasure of having its author, Ritxar Bacete.
“You are a bueno hombres. Masculinity in the era of feminism” manifests the need for men to break with the foundations of an unequal society of sexist and patriarchal structure. Not only because it violates women’s rights but because, although many do not know, they have alibis for their freedom to be. She also claims the goodness of men, and the gift that feminism offers to grow and be critical of dominant and toxic hegemonic masculinity.
During the talk, Bacete vindicated the figure of good, tender and sensitive men, despite the fact that they have been forgotten and invisibility by toxic models.
He also highlighted how the ethics of care has been put at the centre of life and politics, since “we exist thanks to care. Care makes life and dignificity possible, although historically it has been left out. Sexistism is a very sophisticated training to lose this connection with care”.
During the talk, Mrs. Mar Gaya, led and encouraged the attendees, as well as highlighting different paragraphs of the work, so that Ritxar could explain and detail his words.
Finally, the attendees have started a relaxed conversation about the value of creating direct links, feminism and patriarchal culture. In addition, there were more specific issues, such as the link that is created between mothers and children, the need to instruct feminist education from a young age or how to manage patriarchy in young people, among others.
Finally, the president of the Association, Anna Mercadé, highlights: the only way to do things is together.
